we’ve been having all of these appreciation days/weeks for characters and ships lately, but we’ve been missing the big picture.

Reblogging so everyone can know about Bryke Appreciation Day.

here’s my piece!
shhh i know i posted it before september 1st but it’s ok shhhh
this is my entry for Bryke Day, which I guess is officially September 1st (according to a post I saw). anyway, i realize today is not September 1st, but i wanted to post this regardless. i’m really thankful for Avatar not only because it was—and remains—entertaining, but also because it’s inspired me and motivated me to hone my skills in both drawing and storytelling.
haha so this’ll probably get six notes and bryke (or the rest of the amazing team) will never see it, but whatever. it was fun to make and good practice for comic-style narrations, which i don’t do as often as i’d like.
guys i’m just really emotional about avatar right now because i concluded that were it not for me practicing drawing via fanart, i would not have gotten into RISD
so yeah casually planning out this elaborate thank-you comic to bryke and the team for Bryke Appreciation Day which they probably will never see anyway but still.

watch
this
also it makes me extraordinarily happy that they mention RISD within the first few sentences. i’m so excited to go there <3

guys, i think this is literally my favorite fanart that i’ve ever done, ever. maybe even one of my favorite pieces of digital art.
haha if this only gets like six notes i’m gonna be so sad.
anyway, this is for sexy maiko week: fight and forgiveness. in some kind of au where they wear vaguely thug outfits. i don’t know what they’re fighting about. whatevs.
i think if mike or bryan ever reblogged or liked my fanart i would probably just evaporate into thin air or spontaneously combust.

Aaaand probably five hours later, here’s the finished thing! I think this is the closest I’ve got to photorealism. Still trying. Anyway, I wanted to mimic the feel of that older gAang poster—except, of course, add Mai. Because. You know. I ship Maiko so hard it hurts.

(Or older Suki, if you wanna see it that way)
I really really really like how this turned out. Yay experimenting with brushes! Obviously influenced by Japanese prints.
